Our lives are measured in days, years, and decades that together, make a lifetime — but it’s the special moments that we remember and cherish.
When we look back on our lives, there are two main types of things we will see: our big, life-changing memories, and also the small moments that have stuck with us throughout the years. We don’t always have control over the big stuff.
We grow up, find love, start families and careers, and somewhere along the way, we inevitably experience pain and loss.
Although there’s nothing more natural than transitioning over to the other side, it hurts us because we feel separated from those we love, and we feel that there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s during these times that we must turn our gaze to the moments in our lives.
What if we focused on the present moment? See if you can bring your mind back to where you are right this second, in your body, in the room where you’re sitting. Quiet the running dialogue of errands to run, grocery lists, and emails to write. Just sit — and be in the moment.
If you do this often enough, you’ll soon discover an important secret: Everything is okay in the present moment. When you’re present, you don’t have to worry about the next moment yet. All you have is right now.
With practice, you’ll get used to spending time in the present, and you’ll see that the happiness you seek is always within your reach in the moment. The time for happiness is now! And when you realize this, you’ll see there’s a wealth of cherished moments you get to experience each and every day!
