Because we are not separate from God and others, what we do to ourselves really does affect the whole. When we neglect ourselves, we’re abandoning God and others. When we disrespect ourselves, we’re disregarding the whole. When we focus on the darkness, we’re not
allowing the God within us to shine.
On the other hand, when we lovingly take care of ourselves, we’re treating the whole with reverence. When we respect ourselves, we’re honoring all that is. When we focus on the light, we’re seeing the world as God does. When we heal ourselves, we’re healing the world around us. When we cherish ourselves, we’re in a better position to love others. When we devote more time to self-care, we feel refreshed and more willing to designate time to serving others.
My own personal experience lets me know how true this is, and one particular example comes to mind. For many years, my appointments for readings and healings have been booked out years in advance. In the early years of my career, I’d work seven days a week, never giving
myself a day off. This depleted my energy so much that I had nothing left to give others. Then, somewhere along the line, I decided that I wasn’t going to do weekend appointments anymore. Immediately after making that decision, I felt as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders, and I experienced an incredible inner peace.
I’d been hesitant to make this change because I was worried that some clients wouldn’t be able to see me anymore. In other words, I was putting their perceived needs ahead of my own. However, after I announced my new schedule, everyone was more than willing to work around it! Because it helped me feel refreshed and energized, I was able to give so much more of myself to everyone else. It was a win-win situation for everyone! However, I had to honor myself first so I could then serve others better.
Again, you are not separate from others, and what you do to yourself really does affect the whole. In other words, you must love and respect yourself before you can give love to others. Simply put, you deserve to feel better!
Are you the type of person who always puts everyone ahead of yourself? Please realize that when you sacrifice every bit of your time to others, you don’t have quality energy left to offer. So think about what you can do for yourself that will actually benefit everyone else as well. Then do whatever you need to do to make that happen! Take a break from working to clear your mind. Go to your favorite spot and pick up something you love for lunch. (You have to eat anyway!) Turn off your cell phone when you don’t want to be interrupted. Say no to anything you don’t want to do.
There are so many things you can do to make yourself feel better, but I’m sure you get the picture. Shine the light on within yourself first; and after that, make sure to spread that magnificent love onto everyone you meet. In doing so, you’ll be creating a better world, not only for yourself, but for all those around you as well!
