How can we find more peace and joy in our everyday lives? Most people are so focused on what they think are the “big” things in their lives – their jobs, classes they take, paying their bills, etc.- that they forget to slow down, smell the roses, and make the most out of each day. As I often tell my friends and clients, one of the best ways to enrich your daily life is very simple: begin each day by counting your blessings. I mean that literally. Make a commitment to yourself that the first thing you’ll do each day when you get up is identify 10 blessings in your life. They can be little things, like “I’m thankful for the bed I’m sleeping in” or bigger things like, “I’m thankful I am healthy.” There are no rules—the point is to just take the time to think about the good things in your life. The beauty of this exercise is that you will begin each day with the right mindset. Instead of spending your day looking for things to complain about, you will spend it looking at the positives. This will help you to appreciate the beam of sunlight within the storm.
