You will be healed on many levels when you forgive the people in your life. Writing a forgiveness letter with the intention of seeing everything through the other person’s eyes is the perfect way to begin. First, ask yourself in you had a role in whatever happened and if you could have done anything differently. Then try to see the full picture of what was going on with the other person as well.
For those times when you feel that you didn’t contribute to the negativity at all, try to look at what was going on in the other person’s life. You may even need to look farther back to see what occurred in the person’s childhood. This should help you to understand his or her negative actions from a higher perspective. As Neale Donald Walsch so perfectly states in his book, The Storm Before the Calm, “No one does anything inappropriate, given their model of the world.”
Please understand that I’m not saying to condone the actions of others who have hurt you. I am saying to forgive the person, because as the great Master Jesus said, “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.” When you truly understand this concept, miracles will occur in your life.
In reality, not forgiving someone hurts you so much more than it hurts the other person. Don’t let negative emotions poison your life. From this point on, create your world with love and understanding. Shift your focus from anger and judgment to joy and encouragement. Release the negativity of the past and allow only light to shine in your present. You will see: after you have written your letter of forgiveness and have really let go of past grievances, you will truly be on the road to a much brighter, happier future!
